A ring of magnetic ferrite exhibiting a rectangular hysteresis loop is made by adding 0.1- 5% by weight of cobalt oxide to mixtures of oxides which form on sintering, nickel-zinc or magnesium-zinc ferrites having the constitutions shown in Figs. 5 and 6, grinding, screening, compressing sintering at above 1000‹ C. and slowly cooling to room temperature in at least 12 hours, or rapidly cooling and reheating to 600‹ C. and slowly cooling, the cooling being carried out while a magnetic field is produced circumferentially in the core. The magnetic field, which may be applied during heating as well as cooling may be produced by passing through a toroidal winding on the core or a single conduit passing through the ring direct current, or a discontinuous current from intermittent condenser discharges. The intermediate stage of the core having a constructed hysteresis loop is referred to.
