Abstract

The invention comprises esters of 2-oxo-17 beta-hydroxy-A-nor-androstane with carboxylic acids containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and their preparation by reacting the free alcohol with the appropriate acid or an anhydride or halogenide thereof. Suitable acids include alkanoic, halo-alkanoic, hexahydrobenzoic, cycloalkylalkanoic, furane-2-carboxylic, nicotinic, benzoic, aralkanoic, dibasic, e.g. succinic, tartaric, and carbamic acids. In examples the esterifying agents used are propionic acid anhydride, decanoyl chloride, beta-cyclopentyl-propionyl chloride, benzoyl chloride and beta-phenyl-propionic acid anhydride, all used in the presence of pyridine. Other esterifying agents and procedures are also referred to.
