[Also in Group XXVII] A sound-absorbing air duct 10 has its main walls composed of blocks 12, 14 of open-celled cellular frangible material, e.g. glass or blast furnace slag, cut from a single block and provided with additional recesses 20 tuned to varying frequencies, the remaining walls 22, 24 being open-celled or closed-celled cellular glass blocks, or blocks of glass wool, mineral wool or asbestos bonded by sodium silicate, bonded to the blocks 12, 14. Hot asphalt or neoprene cement may be used to join the blocks 22, 12, 14. The duct 10 is connected by flexible couplings to other ducts one of which leads to an air blower. There may be a plurality of ducts 10 in parallel.
