Abstract

845,772. Shuttering for casting walls. KEMP, J. A. (Roberts Construction Co. Ltd.) July 22, 1957, No. 23204/57. Class 20(2) Shuttering for walls particularly cooling towers comprises a pair of uprights 2 having aprons 3 extending on either side thereof the full length of the upright against which a panel 1 is held by straps 6 secured to the uprights the upper ends of which are braced by struts 10, 11 which assist in holding further uprights in position. The uprights are mounted on bolts 4 embedded in already set concrete. The struts are clamped to uprights 14 and horizontal rails 15. The uprights are mounted on one another or on the edges of a panel by pins 7 engaging holes and a further pin 18 allows the upright to be laid horizontally and supported by a strut for casting a horizontal structure. The first course is cast with the stanchions 14 standing on the ground. The shuttering for higher courses is supported on the uprights 2 for a lower course secured by bolts 4 cast in the set concrete and struts 10, 11 and extended stanchions 14 which however need not rest on the ground. Struts 10, 11 are adjustable for adjusting the angle of the shuttering, the strut 10 by a jack 12 and the strut 11 by holes 13. The nut of the bolt 4 engages curved plates 20 on the upright to allow satisfactory clamping when the structure has a vertically curved surface. The panels comprise two parts one a third of the height of the other and have projections 22 resting on straps 6. The bottom of an upright 2 may be cut at an angle to sit on another upright to which it is required to be at an angle. Staging 17 is laid on ledgers 16 secured to brackets 9 and tubes 14 or 15. The aprons 3 Fig. 8 may be of box form engaging flanges 25 on the panels and the moulding sides of the aprons and panels 1 are flush.
