Abstract

924,051. Shuttering for casting concrete. BLAW-KNOX CO. Sept. 26, 1960 [Oct. 2, 1959], No. 32962/60. Class 20 (2). Shuttering, particularly for dams, retaining walls &c, comprises a panel 17 mounted on the upper parts 13 of strong backs pivoted by pins 15 on lower parts 14 which are fixed to already cast concrete by anchor bolts 37, the angle between the parts 13, 14 of each strong back being adjustable by a turnbuckle 41, a shuttering anchor 33, to be cast in the next course, being mounted in the upper part of the panel. Each turnbuckle 41 is pivoted at one end to the part 13 and at the other to a beam 38 on the part 14 supported by a stay 39. The two beams 38 of a panel are connected by stays 57, 58 and support staging 53. The strong backs and beams are made of channels back-toback. The panel 17 comprises a wood or metal face on channels 16 and rests by means of an angle iron 52 on the bolt 37. Adjacent panels are connected together by bolts through the panel side plates 19. Horizontal angle irons 18 seal the lower end of the course. The bolt 33 is held by a latch which engages one of two grooves in the bolt depending whether the bolt is required in position for casting or out of the way. The shuttering is lifted by cranes by means of lugs 22. Fig. 7 shows a shuttering for a sloping surface in which each strong back is fixed by an additional anchor 37<SP>1</SP> at the lower end of the beam 14<SP>1</SP> and an adjustable pad 40<SP>1</SP> bearing on the concrete and mounted on a screw 68 in the beam 14<SP>1</SP> and the upper anchor 37<SP>1</SP> is above the pivot 15<SP>1</SP>. The beam 14<SP>1</SP> is connected to a beam 64 having a pin and hole adjustment with a beam 62 fixed to a beam 381 and by a beam 63 to the beam 13<SP>1</SP>. The panel 17<SP>1</SP> is in two parts connected by pivots on a horizontal axis 73 about which the upper part is moved by a screw jack 41<SP>1</SP> to mould a bend in the surface or to allow concrete to be introduced more readily behind the shuttering. The screw jack may be quickly releasable from the part 62 for this purpose. Scaffolding is mounted on beams 63 and also on a beam 69 having pin and hole angular adjustment. A modification of the construction shown in Fig. 7 comprises a flexible panel face 84, Fig. 12, adjustable to a selected curvature by rows of screws 86 along the panel engaging pivoted nuts 85 on the beam 13<SP>11</SP> and pivoted nuts 88 on bars 91 across the panel. Adjacent panels are connected together by means of plates 94. In a further modification the strong backs each comprise a box beam 101, Fig. 15, having a cantilever beam 102 pivoted at 108 in its lower end, one end of the beam 102 engaging the already cast concrete and the other end being adjustable relative to the beam 101 by a screw 111. Staging 131, 132 is mounted on parallel joints 133, pivoted to the beam 101 and pivoted posts 134 to form a parallel linkage which may be folded up and held by bolts 107 and lugs 129. A panel may be provided with an edge which may be used for casting a chamfered corner or for engaging another panel for casting a straight wall and comprises a plate 150 welded to an edge of a panel 153 and a second plate 156 bolted to it, both plates having chamfered registering edges 159, 160. The plate 156 has a rib 161 which when the plate 156 is turned into inverted position on the plate 150 squares off the chamfer thereon so that the gap between the panel 153 and a second panel in line therewith for casting a straight wall is filled, Fig. 21 (not shown).
