845,561. Optical viewing devices. GARRARD ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Feb. 10, 1958 [Feb. 8, 1957], No. 4409/57. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XVII] A magnifying lens 6 is secured to part of a receptacle 1 in which a gramophone pick-up stylus is mounted, the lens 6 being positioned at its focal length from and with its optical axis aligned with the stylus point to obtain a sharp magnified image of the point. The lens 6, Fig. 1, forms part of the closure member 2 of the receptacle 1 in which the stylus arm is mounted by a clip 4. In an alternative embodiment, a receptacle containing more than one stylus has one magnifying lens in the closure member which is slidable so that the lens may be located with its optical axis aligned with each stylus point in turn. The lens may be provided in a sheet of flexible material stretched across a flat open-topped container. When the receptacle contains more than one stylus a corresponding number of lenses may be provided. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the receptacle comprises a tube 1 having a lens 6 forming a removable closure. The opposite end of the tube may contain a brush 9, for dusting the stylus point, directed away from the lens and provided with a protective cover 10.
