Classes 98(1) and 98(2) In order to compensate for colour unbalance in a coloured negative to be printed, the lamp house of a photographic projection or contact printer has slidably mounted therein superposed frames, each of which carries a screen for modifying the light intensity, a colour filter and a scale or index whereby the area of the filter which is inserted in the light path to the negative is indicated. As shown in Fig. 1, the lamp house of an enlarger has a casing 3 in which two frames 4, 5 are relatively slidable across the light path to a coloured negative 17 mounted behind an opal screen 16. Each frame carries a density screen 6, 9 of alternating opaque and transparent areas, a colour filter 7, 10 and a scale 8, 11 which can be read off against the edge 12 or 13 of the casing to indicate the area of the corresponding filter 7, 10 which has been inserted. into the light path. In the contact printer of Fig. 4, the frames are slidable between condenser elements 25, 26 under control of screws 30, 31 and have laterally disposed scales observable through windows in the casing 27. Alternatively, the scales may be fixed on the casing and each frame be provided with an index. The frames may also be constructed so that the colour filters are interchangeable.
