Abstract

The torque-transmitting metallic diaphragm of a flexible coupling (see Group XXIV) is coated with a thin layer of the plastic material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Teflon", to prevent "fretting" and fatigue, by the following process:- (1). Degrease diaphragm in trichloroethylene vapour. (2). Roughen surface, e.g. by vapour honing (bombarding with fine grit particles suspended in steam) and dry. (3). Spray both surfaces with Teflon resin primer No. 850-201 by means of a "Bellows" Type 2 spray gun at 30-40 lb./sq. in. The spray should be a fine mist and care taken to avoid flooding or excessive coating. (4). Place in a stoving oven at 100 DEG C. for 10 minutes. (5). Transfer to a stoving oven at 390 DEG C. for 20 minutes. (6). Remove from oven and allow to cool. (7). Spray with Teflon resin black No. 851-201 as at (3) above. (8), (9) and (10). As (4), (5) and (6) above.
