Abstract

The dispersions contain lithium hydroxide, fine-particle pyrogenic silica produced at over 400 degrees C, a fluorocarbon polymer, water, organic solvent and wetting agent. The silica particles are of 0.02-20 (0.05-15) mu size and pref. only the surface is reacted with LiOH, the molar ratio of LiOH to SiO2 being 1:0.5-30 (pref. 1:1-4). The fluorocarbon is pref. PTFE in an amt. of 45-90 (60-75) wt. % of the total of flurocarbon + SiO2 + LiOH. The dispersions are suitable for coating metals esp., for non-stick coatings a cooking utensils, either as single coatings or as primers for subsequent cover coats. Better adhesion is obtd. than by use of lithium polysilicates and physiological objections to dispersions contg. chromic acid are avoided.
