Abstract
845,192. Temperature-responsive a.ctuating elements. SUDDEUTSCHE KUHLERFABRIK J. F. BEHR. June 19; 1956 [June 20, 1955], No. 18956/56. Class 64(2) A thermostat comprises a housing 102, Fig. 2, expansible means 101, a movable plunger 103, and a resilient sealing means 105 attached both to the plunger and the housing. The means 105 is pre-tensioned and the plunger 103 is moved through the medium of a rubber membrane 104. In Fig. 3, the plunger 203 dips directly into the expansible means 201 and is engaged by annular resilient sealing members 228, 230 the distance a between , which is greater than the stroke of the plunger. The space 232 may be wholly or partly filled with lubricant and the member 228 may be replaced by a metallic guiding surface. In Fig. 6, the plunger 503 is guided by an annular sealing member and an interior guide 540 forming part of an insert 542 which assists conduction of heat to the expansible means 501. The insert may be shaped as shown in Fig. 6a, or be somewhat modified from that shape or it may be perforated by a number of circular holes. The insert may have a bush of synthetic material to receive the plunger which may be hollow. The resilient sealing means may be formed by a tapered bellows having its larger end cemented to the housing. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 757,429.
