In a poultry house comprising separate feeding and laying quarters, the laying quarters have a floor of open construction spaced above the ground so that the birds' droppings can fall freely through it, the space between the floor and the ground being enclosed by covered walls to ensure the warmth and darkness of the laying quarters. The floor preferably comprises removable sections consisting of frames 29 covered with wire netting, the frame members being covered with bevelled, rubber or plastic strips which serve both as egg guides and to prevent contamination of the frame members by droppings. Further, the floor is arranged to slope towards a hinged flap 31 in one external wall of the quarters, through which both eggs and the floor sections may be removed, the eggs, prior to collection, being protected from the hens by inclined boards 35, which together with boards 34 also serve to prevent draughts, and to prevent droppings from falling on the edge members of the floor frames. The external walls of the laying quarters comprise boards 28 which terminate a short distance below the roof 26 of the house to provide a means of ventilation edge boards 27 on the roof extending across the resulting gap and acting as wind baffles. The space between the floor and the ground is enclosed by hinged flaps 36. The feeding quarters of the poultry house comprise a horizontal floor of similar construction to that of the laying quarters, and two external walls consisting of spaced pillars 10 and 11 provided with mountings for troughs 12 of the kind described in Specification 844,803 the third external wall consisting of spaced bars 22 between which the poultry can reach drinking troughs 20. The pillars 10 and 11 are interconnected by horizontal members 14 and 15, the members 15 acting as bearers for the removable floor frames 16, and the members 14 serving for the attachment of the wire netting constituting the upper part of the cage, to support sliding doors 23, and to force abutments for the handles of the feeding troughs 12.
