Abstract

The invention comprises steroid compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0844790/IV(b)/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or an alkonoyl radical containing up to 6 carbon atoms and Hal represents a halogen atom such as chlorine, bromine or fluorine, and a process for the preparation of the 16a , 21-dialkonoyloxy compounds of the above general formula I by reacting the corresponding 11b -hydroxy- -16a , 21-dialkonoyloxy compounds with chromic anhydride in an inert solvent, and if desired, treating these compounds with an alkali metal hydroxide to form the corresponding compounds wherein R represents hydrogen. In the examples 9a -fluoro-16a , 17a , 21-trihydroxy-4-pregnene -3,11,20-trione and the corresponding 16a , 21-diacetoxy compound, and 16a , 21-diacetoxy-9a -chloro-17a -hydroxy-4-pregnene- -3,11,20-trione are prepared. Specification 835,557 is referred to.ALSO:A therapeutic composition that can be used internally or topically comprises a capsule, pill, tablet, solution for injection, ointment or salve containing as the active ingredient a steroid of the general formula: <FORM:0844790/VI/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or an alkanoyloxy group containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and Ha1 represents a halogen atom.
