Abstract

844,370. Flexible joints. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 5,1957 [March 6, 1956], No. 7046/56. Class 99(1). In a flexible joint comprising, in combination, a flexible bellows section 11 interconnecting annular, end sections 10, there is an axially extending internal, transverse cross-plates 16, 17 secured to each section 10, and an axially extending, internal, transverse tie-plate 15 interconnecting the cross-plates, the latter and the tie-plate being disposed in planes at rightangles to each other so that flexing of the joint in a plane normal to the plane of the crossplates results in the application of a twisting moment to the cross-plates, whereas flexing of the joint in the plane of the cross-plates results in the application of a bending moment to the tie-plate. As shown, the bellows consists of annular, metal tubes split circumferentially around the inner peripheries thereof and interconnected by annular sections 12.
