Abstract

844,252. Latches. COPE, WHELON & CO. Ltd. Aug. 6, 1958 [May 6, 1957], No. 14386/57. Class 44 In an animal cage, a swing down door 9 is provided at or near its upper edge 12 with a latch 13 comprising a U-shaped hook pivotable about a horizontal axis at or parallel to the edge 12 and engageable with a horizontal member 2 at or near the upper edge of the door opening, the hook being arranged so that, when it is hanging freely, it presents the opening of the U outwardly and the base of the U towards the horizontal member 2 whereby, on closure of the door the base is encountered by the horizontal member 2 and the hook caused to swing over preferably through substantially 360 degrees and to engage around the horizontal member 2. As shown, the latch 13 consists of a length of wire with eyelets 14 at its ends engaging the upper edge 12 of the door and two U-shaped portions 15 below the eyelets connected together by a horizontal cross-piece 16.
