Abstract

[Also in Group XXIII] A microscope 28 is mounted on the upper part of a hollow pivot post 16, about which is pivoted an arm 15 carrying a tool-holder 21 having an adjustable tool 24 for trimming the shaped-periphery of a rotating electrode 9 of a spark-'erosion machine. A support 5, adapted for attachment to the machine, has mounted thereon a slide 6 movable at right-angles to the electrode axis 8, and a second slide 11 movable parallel to the axis is mounted on the first-slide 6. An arcuate bracket 15 is pivotally attached to the slide 11 between extensions 14, by the hollow-post 16, below which the tip of the tool 24 is located when in contact with the electrode 9, and within the field of the microscope 28 which may be provided with a graticule for checking the trimming of the electrode. A third slide 17, attached to the underside of the bracket 15, is movable laterally by a rack 19 and pinion 18 to traverse the tool, as when trimming the straight flank portions of an electrode of the shape shown in Fig. 5, after setting the bracket 15 to the required angle. The slide 17 may be locked in its central position by locking members 31, which engage a stop 32 when the tool is required to act on the curved portion of the electrode periphery. The tool-holder 21 is carried by a sub-slide to permit radial adjustment of the tool.
