Abstract
844,085. Printing surfaces. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. Jan. 8, 1958 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 771/58. Class 100(2) A planographic printing plate comprises a flexible supporting base sheet having thereon a printing surface in the form of a coating of waterinsolubilized oxidised cellulose. Preferably the oxidised cellulose is pigmented and the base sheet is provided with a wet-strength basic coating. In an example a coating of 5 grams of pigment (finely divided alumina), 8 c.c. of ammonium hydroxide, 1 gm. of oxidised cellulose (prepared by treating cellulose with nitrogen tetroxide) and 99.2 c.c. of water was applied to a sheet of 10" x 15". The coating may be insolubilized by heating to about 90C, but is preferably insolubilized by means of a weak solution of a mineral acid such as phosphoric acid, the plate afterwards being heated, rinsed and dried. More than one coating of oxidised cellulose may be employed.
