Abstract

843,749. Bags, thermoplastic containers. BORELLO, C. Nov. 26, 1956 [Dec. 2, 1955], No. 36551/58. Divided out of 830,787. Classes 66 and 94(2). A fluid-tight bag-like container of pliable thermoplastic, e.g. polyethylene, comprises a pair of walls, 1, 2, merging into each other through a rounded end wall 3a, a circular aperture 4 in the end wall for receiving a stopper 8, 9, an inturned edge on the end wall around the aperture providing an annular lip 7, and a pair of weld lines 1a, 1b connecting the boundary walls and defining opposite lateral edges of the container. As shown, the container is formed from a tubular blank T of polyethylene, a flat section C of trapezoidal shape being separated from the blank T by cuts along weld lines 1a, 1b. The aperture 4 is then formed between a die and a crescent shaped punch, not shown. The end wall 3a is then depressed to the shape shown in Fig. 2, and a heated punch 5 having a maximum diameter greater than that of the aperture is then inserted in the aperture to form the lip 7. Alternatively, a cold punch may be inserted and withdrawn several times to form the lip 7.
