Abstract

<PICT:0842987/III/1> <PICT:0842987/III/2> An apparatus for continuously slaking quick lime or materials containing quicklime comprises an upright reactor-container (1) of circular cross-section, which may be downwardly enlarged, into the top of which the solid materials and water may be introduced, having an annular outlet (4) at the bottom, stationary means (3) for supporting and deflecting the contents to said outlet and rotary discharge means (2) mounted for rotation about the axis of said reactor-container. The numerals refer to the Figures. The support for material is preferably in the form of an upright cone, which may be supported by struts 7 (Fig. 2) within the reactor-container and be accompanied by a guide cone 8 on the discharge means or may have curved surfaces and be supported by a member passing through the centre of the discharge means (Fig. 1). As shown in the Figures, the discharge means 2 comprises a rotary disc or plate, but a fixed plate may be employed and rotary spoons introduced into the outlet for discharging the material. The reactor-container may be provided with intermediate grates and with insulating means or a heating system e.g. of pipes.
