[Also in Group XX] The invention relates to photographic printing apparatus of the type in which a scanning spot of light from a cathode ray tube I passes through the negative 4 and printing paper 5 and is received on a photo-electric cell 6, the output of which is fed back through an amplifier to control the spot brightness. According to the invention, in order that the scanning pattern shall not be precisely repeated, the travel of the spot is controlled by two oscillators 14, 15 each controlling the current in a pair of scanning coils, the arrangement being that the output frequency from oscillator 14 is controlled at 2 k.c/sec. while that from oscillator 15 is caused to vary through a range, from 1.9 to 2.1 k.c/sec. The variation may be produced by a reactance valve in the oscillator fed with the increasing voltage of a timing capacitor which suppresses the cathode ray tube beam after a predetermined time.
