Abstract

842,459. Automatic speed-control systems. CREED & CO. Ltd. May 24, 1957 [May 28, 1956], No. 16528/57. Class 38 (4). The speed and phase of a synchronous motor 10 driving a facsimile drum 11 is maintained by controlling in a saturable reactor phase modulator 15 the phase of the supply to the motor from a frequency standard 13 in accordance with the phase difference between a signal from a tone generator 12 and a signal derived by a frequency multiplier 9 from the frequency standard. The discriminator output is applied to an error voltage amplifier, Fig. 2 (not shown), through a network providing integral and differential components, and the phase correction is effected by a saturable reactor. In a modification for controlling an induction motor which is described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown), the frequency standard is connected directly to a phase detector, the output from which controls a saturable reactor to phasemodulate the induction motor supply.
