A tool for inserting wirecoil screw-thread inserts comprises a casing 10 having a screwed spindle 18, the end 20 of which slides in a sleeve 13 which is rotated in a slide 23 by a spindle R from a powersource S. A non-rotating split-nut 56, 56<SP>1</SP>, releasably engages the spindle 18 and feeds it axially, thus causing the spindle end 19 to enter an insert C and engage a tang T thereon, thereby forcing the insert through a ring 42 and into an internally - screwed workpiece B. In operation, an insert C is placed on the ring 42, which engages the work B when pressure is exerted on the tool. The foot 37 and the sleeves 33, 30, secured thereon move axially inwards until a pin 52, secured to sleeve 30 and sliding in a slot 53 in a member 46, screwed in the casing 10 at 47, abuts the inner end of the slot, the nut 56, 56<SP>1</SP> being thereby closed on to the spindle 18 by fingers 61, 61<SP>1</SP> on the sleeve 30. The sleeve 13 is rotated, and rotates the spindle 18 through a pin 21 on the spindle-engaging slots 16 in the sleeve, thus feeding the spindle 18 until the slot 26 engages the tang T on the insert C and screws it through the ring 42 into the work B. The ring 42 is bevelled to contract the insert to a diameter less than that of the hole in the work.
