Abstract

Granules of red lead or litharge are prepared by mixing the powdered oxide with 5% to 15% by weight of a binding agent whilst maintaining the mixture in constant movement until granules are formed, heating the granules to a temperature not exceeding 300 DEG C., cooling, and sifting. The binding agent may be added all at once or dropwise to the oxide, or it may be sprayed on. A wetting agent may be added to the mixture. Binding agents specified are sodium and potassium silicates, polyhydric alcohols, especially glycerol, dispersions of synthetic resins, for example polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylic acid, and polystyrene, waste sulphite liquor, and waste molasses.
