Abstract
Salts in which the anion contains a transition metal or a Group IB metal are recovered from aqueous solutions as metal amine complexes by reacting said aqueous salt solution with an alkylamine or arylamine or corresponding ammonium salt or quaternary ammonium salt or quaternary ammonium base to form an alkylammonium or arylammonium metal complex and removing the complex thus formed by extraction with a solvent which is at least partly immiscible with water. Suitable solvents are chloroform, ether, esters (e.g. ethyl acetate) and alcohols (e.g. amyl alcohol). Anions specified are palladium tetraiodide, osmiate, ferrocyanide, ferricyanide, cobalticyanide, platinium hexochloride, silver thiosulphate, and gold tetrachloride. Specified amine complexing agents are mono-, di- and tri-n-butylamine, triamylamine, octylamine, trioctylamine, laurylamine, tri-n-propylamine, dicyclohexylamine, N:N-diethylaniline, cetyldimethylamine and salts thereof, tetra-n-butylammoniumhydroxide and cetyltrimethylammonium salts.
