Abstract
841,542. Pallets for handling loads. STANLEY, O. M. Oct. 1, 1957 [Oct. 3, 1956], No. 30698/57. Class 30698/57. Class 78 (4). [Also in Group XVII] A pallet for holding and stocking articles comprises two transversely spaced longitudinally extending members 12, 13, Fig. 10, bent up to form end extensions 14, 15 and a pair of transverse struts 18, 19 on each end extension. The lower struts of a superposed frame will rest on the upper struts 19. The looped handles 16 are prevented from moving outwardly by engagement with the lower struts of a superposed frame, and are prevented from moving towards each other by the projecting ends of the upper struts 19 engaging the outer faces of the upward extensions of the superposed frame. The distance between a pair of struts 18, 19 is greater than the height of the articles to be handled in order that similar frames may be stacked when loaded. Article retaining means. In Fig. 10 the articles are held in position by side rails 80 joining the rods 18. Alternatively the upper rods only, or both the upper rods and the lower rods, may be joined by side rails. The article retaining means may comprise trays and, as shown in Fig. 1, the lowermost frame has a tray 31 with upstanding edges that embrace the lower periphery of a layer of cartons A stacked thereon. The tray 31 of the superposed frame has both upstanding and depending flanges 31a, 31b. The two longitudinally extending members 12, 13 may be joined by transverse struts that extend out under and up the sides of the trays 31. Feet. If all the trays have both upstanding and depending flanges, then the additional struts under the members 12, 13 are bent downwards to form feet to keep the depending flanges 31b off the ground. In a modified construction, Fig. 16, the articles to be carried by the frame are held in place by tapes embracing the loops 110. The frame may be used as a non-returnable holder for non-returnable containers such as milk cartons made of wax impregnated paper.
