Abstract
The invention comprises n-butyl-19-nortestosterone - trans - hexahydroterephthalate and the preparation thereof by condensing 19 - nor - testosterone with n - butyl - transhemihexahydroterephthalate, e.g. in an inert solvent such as benzene, or with the acid chloride of the said hemi-ester in the presence of an agent capable of taking up hydrochloric acid, e.g. a tertiary base such as pyridine, methylethylpyridine or triethylamine. One detailed example is given in which the n-butyl-19 - nor - testosterone - trans - hexahydroterephthalate formed is purified by chromatography on alumina. Specification 817,736 is referred to.ALSO:A therrapeutic composition comprises a solution of N-butyl-19-nor-testosterone-trans-hexa-hydroterephthalate in a neutral vegetable oil to which may be added a glycol or other injectable solvent, a thixotropic gel which is obtained by adding aluminium monostearate or aluminium 2-ethylhexarvate to an oily solution of the above steroid ester, or a microcrystalline aqueous suspension or emulsion of the above steriod ester.
