Abstract

840,815. Electromechanical resonators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., DREDGE, C. J., and RICHES, E. E. March 6, 1958 [March 6, 1957], No. 7451/57. Class 40(8). An electromechanical resonator, e.g. for use in a filter network, comprises a composite elongated structure formed partially of piezoelectric material and partially of metal, the piezo-electric portion lying between two metal portions, which act as electrodes the nodal support contacting one of said metal portions only. A part 2 of a bar resonator 1 of uniform square cross-section is formed from a solid solution of the titanates of barium, lead and calcium, and the two metal end members 3 and 4 of nickelchromium-iron-titanium alloy constitute electrodes for the piezo-electric section 2 and form at least nine-tenths of the length of bar 1. Said bar is supported in a nodal plane from a metal structure 5 by means of screws 6, 7 and 8 which engage grooves 9 and 10 cut in an end portion of the bar. The cross-section of the bar in other embodiments is not necessarily square or uniform and may be circular (Fig. 2, not shown). Specification 840,816 is referred to.
