Stainless steel articles, such as saucers or trays, are enamelled by a process wherein the surface of a flat blank of stainless steel is roughened by grinding it with an abrasive sheet or wheel, which may provide a design, and the blank formed into the desired shape which is then enamelled.., The marginal areas .of the shaped articles may be sandblasted before covering with enamel.
