Abstract

Low-pressure olefin polymerization products are worked up by treating them with a complexing agent capable of preventing precipitation from said polymerization product of compounds of catalyst metals under conditions in which the pH is greater than pH 6. Specified complexing agents are gluconic, citric, saccharic malonic, oxalic, glycollic, lactic, salicylic and tartaric acids, which may be used as salts with inorganic or organic bases, ethylene diamine, N-dimethylethylenediamines, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, ethylenediamine - N,N1 - diacetic acid, ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid, and others, and the mono-, di- and tri-ethanolamines. Specified olefins are ethylene, propylene or butylene and mixtures thereof. A prior catalyst decomposition treatment may be used and the pH brough above 6 by treatment with a base or an alkali. The polyolefin may be treated in suspension and live steam blown thereinto. A detergent may also be present. Specifications 799,392, 799,823, 801,031, 829,627, 829,628 and 832,205 are referred to.
