Abstract
839,724. Mechanical switches, without quickaction. NATIONAL ACME CO. Dec. 16, 1957, No. 39038/57. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXX] A safety device (Fig. 3), for preventing simultaneous operation of the hand drive and motor drive of a ship's winch includes lever 7, the shaft 21 of which carries insulated contacts 5, 6 which co-operate with fixed contacts 3, 4, the leads to the latter being led in at 20 and secured at 18. When lever 7 is swung over, contacts 5, 6 engage contacts 3, 4 to switch-in the electric motor whilst guard 8 on the end of lever 7 obstructs the squared end of the winch shaft. When lever 7 is swung back to the position shown, the motor circuit is broken and the squared end may be driven by a hand crank. The lever may be retained in its end position by means of a pin passing through appropriate holes in the lever and in the switch casing. In the second embodiment (Fig. 6), rotation of lever 72 about axis 102 causes contacts 70, 71 to be withdrawn from fixed contacts 68, 69 by engagement of pin 103 carried by the lever in and with slot 98 formed in shaft 89 which carries contacts 70, 71.
