A blower 39 on a vehicle can be connected through a dust collector 32 to apply suction to draw material into chambers 13, 14, 15 for loading and can also be connected to deliver air to the chambers 13, 14, 15 to discharge material to a pipe 25. To load the vehicle illustrated valves are set so that the blower draws air through a conduit 36 from a cyclone separator 32 which is connected by pipes 34, 47 to draw air from one side of a baffle 21 mounted in an inverted channel 20 extending along the tops of the chambers 13, 14, 15. The other side of the channel 20 is connected to a pipe 30 terminating in a coupling by which it can be connected to a hose for the material to be loaded. Under these conditions the blower 39 discharges to the atmosphere through a silencer 44 and vent pipe 51. To unload material from the chambers 13, 14, 15 the blower delivers air through a valve 46 to the pipe 47 which is isolated from the conduit 34 by a valve 48. The air is thus delivered to the channel 20 where it applies pressure to the chambers 13, 14, 15, escaping from these chambers to a passage 22 leading through a valve 24 to a delivery pipe 25 receiving material from the chambers 13, 14, 15 through valves 27, 28, 29 and connected by a hose to a receiving hopper. Air is extracted from the receiving hopper by a further hose connected to the conduit 34 so that the air passes through the separator 32 and conduit 36 to the blower 39. The chambers 13, 14, 15 may be separated by partitions 16, 18 extending for only part of the height of the chambers, as shown, or may be isolated entirely from one another apart from the connections provided by the channel 21. Apertures 13b, 14b, 15b are provided for loading the chambers directly. A valve 35 is provided for emptying the separator 32.
