Abstract

Finely-divided synthetic linear polyamides are made by adding a dilute aqueous solution of formic acid containing not more than 45% by weight of formic acid to a solution of a polyamide in formic acid or in a concentrated aqueous solution of formic acid containing not less than 80% by weight of formic acid and isolating the finely-divided synthetic polyamide which is precipitated. The examples describe the preparation of finely-divided precipitates from polyhexamethylene adipamide and polycaproamide. The products of the invention may be milled in the form of aqueous pastes with pigments to form pigment compositions which may be used in the mass coloration of polyamides and polyesters, e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide.
