Abstract
837,959. X-ray apparatus. PICKER X-RAY CORPORATION WAITE MANUFACTURING DIVISION Inc. Sept. 19,1957, No. 29497/57. Class 98(1) A telescopic X-ray tube support consists of slidably interfitting tubes, adjacent tubes having complementary longitudinal grooves between which ball bearings are received. As shown in Fig. 1, the X-ray tube 24 and lamp 23 for indicating the direction of the beam are rotatably mounted at the end of a telescopic tubular support 10, which is mounted on a stand 12. Stand 12 has rollers 15, 16 moving in tracks 14, which are movable at rightangles by means of rollers 18, 19 running in overhead tracks 17. The support 10 consists of annularly spaced tubes 1-7 with facing longitudinal grooves 29, 32 and 29a, 32a formed therein by deformation of the metal. The grooves serve as races for ballbearings 40. Five ball-bearings are located in each pair of grooves, the ballbearings in each set being spaced longitudinally by a cage 42, the length of which is short compared with the length of the grooves. The inner grooves have upper end walls, and the outer grooves are closed at their lower ends by a flanged ring on each tube, to limit the extension of the support. The X-ray tube 24 and lamp 23 are moved up and down by a cord or the like 26, which passes over pulleys 27 in the stand 12 and is wound or unwound by an electric motor 25.
