Abstract

837,579. Injection-moulding machines. WINDSOR Ltd., R. H. Jan. 15, 1959 [Jan. 21, 1958], No. 2014/58. Class 87(2). An injection plunger 11 is yieldably coupled to its operating piston 13 so that it can move back beyond its normal retracted position under the pressure of material being fed to the injection cylinder 4 by a pre-plasticising unit 1, so as to operate switch means 26 to stop the preplasticising unit when the pressure exceeds a predetermined value and while injection is taking place. The yieldable coupling may be a lost motion connection between the plunger 11 and piston rod 12, or may include springs 22 as shown. After injection, plunger 11 is withdrawn and an. abutment 24 closes a normally open switch 25. This energises a solenoid 27 which opens a valve 28 to supply hydraulic fluid from a pump 7 to a cylinder 5 to operate the preplasticising unit. When the cylinder 4 is filled the plunger 11 is pushed back so that the abutment 24 operates switch 26 to de-energise solenoid 27 and stop the preplasticising unit. Switch 26 simultaneously closes a circuit 33 for controlling the supply of hydraulic fluid to cylinder 14 for operating plunger 11.
