[Also in Group XI] Cooking apparatus comprises two spaced head portions fixed to a supporting structure and having between them a pair of hinged side walls which, with the head portions, form a compartment in the middle of which viands to be cooked are placed, the side walls being equipped with heating means. As shown the apparatus comprises a sole plate 1 and ends 2 the movement of the curved side walls 4 being limited by slots therein which are engaged by pins 14 on ends 2. Viands may be supported by a grid 10 with squared portions at its ends which prevent it from rotating when they rest in slots 3 in ends 2. Otherwise a spit 8 may be used having a handle 16 and a squared end portion which engages one of the slots 3 and prevents the spit from rotating. A sleeve 18 is threaded over spit 8 which can be secured in position by a winged screw and carries a spike 20 parallel to the spit to prevent viands from rotating thereon. Dripping fat is collected by a tray 13. Electric heating elements 11, 12 are provided in walls 4 to cool the viands and these walls have a jacket 23 which may be filled with insulating material such as glass or rock wool. A rotatable spit, or double grill which encloses the viands, may be provided along with a small motor for rotating it.
