930,637. Spits. OATLEY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Nov. 22, 1960 [Nov. 26, 1959], No. 40150/59. Class 28 (1). Loose rotary skewers 43, Fig. 1, having drive pinions 32 are engaged with a driving worm 28 by placing them in slots 37, 38 of a spit frame 7, itself detachable from a grill stand 9 constructed as described in Specification 928,041 and having an adjustably mounted motor 12 powering the worm 28 via a gear-box 27, Fig. 4, located on the frame by pegs 24 and secured thereto by a finger nut 22. Each skewer 43 has food-retaining discs 39, 40 with struck-out spikes 42, the disc 40 being slidable on the skewer with a spring friction grip. The frame 7 is supported on one side by engagement of the squared end 26 of the gear-box input shaft in the motor 12 and on the other side by pegs 16 engaging selected notches of a rack 48 and retained by a gravity catch 19. Modifications.-The worm-and-pinion skewer drives may be replaced by dog clutches, in the form of squared skewer ends engaging sockets, or by radial skewer projections engaging rotary crank arms. The spit frame may be mounted in other grilling appliances such as those of Specifications 923,881 and 926,692.
