Abstract

A polyurethane foam for thermal insulation is prepared by reacting an ethylene glycol-adipic acid polyester having a negligible water content with toluene diisocyanate to produce an isocyanate modified polyester to which is then added polyoxyethylene sorbitan monopalmitate and a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon. To the above mixture is added a mixture of the polyester, ethylene glycol, dimethyl ethanolamine and polyoxyethylene sorbitan mono-palmitate emulsifier, the resulting heat vaporising the halogenated hydrocarbon so that it acts as blowing agent as the mixture sets. Proportions are specified in the Specification.
