836,931. Ambulance vehicles. MORRIS MOTORS Ltd. Sept. 24, 1958 [Aug. 24, 1957], No. 26782/57. Addition to 729,100. Class 108(1) An ambulance stretcher carrying frame 1 pivoted at its rear to the floor by cranked struts and provided with forward wheels 2, has on each side a pair of parallel swinging links 6 from which are pivotally suspended a tray 5 or other support holding a mattress 4. In the chain line loading position the mattress 4 is below the level of the frame 1, and the wheels 2 are at the top of a ramped platform 3 provided with a roller 7 upon which the tray 5 bears in all positions of the frame 1. As the stretcher loaded frame 1 is pushed upwardly and inwardly, pivoting about the cranked struts, the wheels 2 descend the ramp 8. After a position has been reached where the two pivots of each cranked strut are vertically above one another, the mattress 4 is constrained to remain horizontal whilst the frame 1 sinks beneath it until the full line position is reached where the stretcher and patient are supported on the mattress. The leading edge 10 of the tray 5 is chamfered to ride on to another roller 11 which supports the forward edge of the mattress when the frame 1 is in its innermost position.
