Abstract
836,652. Gas cleaners. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 19, 1958 [Sept. 20, 1957], No. 29700/57. Class 55 (2). A gas cleaner, suitable for use as an air cleaner for I.C. engines, comprises a cylindrical casing 10 containing an inner hollow rotatable drum 11 which rotates about spindle 12 and hollow spigots 15, 17. The drum 11 contains two or more vertical stand-pipes 19 which project somewhat below the bottom wall of the drum. At their lower ends these stand-pipes are provided with discharge nozzles 21. Oil or other liquid contained in the drum is discharged tangentially through these nozzles by pump 24, thus causing the drum to rotate rapidly. Air or other gas enters through galleries 25 and passes through the spray of liquid issuing from nozzles 21, which washes out entrained dirt. The gas then passes upwards through separating device 28 (gauze screen or staggered plates), which removes liquid droplets, and out through 27. The liquid which collects in sump 22 is returned by pump 24 through line 23 and hollow spigots 15, 17, through ports 18 to the drum, dirt contained in the liquid being therein deposited on the side walls by centrifugal action; this dirt is removed by periodical dismantling and cleaning.
