Abstract

836,318. Lace-making. GOODLEY, C. May 19, 1958, No. 15992/58. Class 74 (1). A lace fabric produced on a curtain machine comprises warp threads constituting a series of pillars, double spool threads, bobbin tie threads and a strengthening background net of beam or bottom bound threads, the fabric incorporating dropped ties of the double spool threads which are floated in either direction between two pillars, the said spool threads being pillared in pairs or faced together at desired locations of the fabric. Fig. 6 shows a typical spool thread formation, in which double spool threads a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP> and a<SP>3</SP>, a<SP>4</SP> are flouted between warp threads b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP>, b<SP>3</SP>, between C and D and E and F, are at tunes pillared in pairs as between B and C and at other times are pillared four together, as between D and E, clothing being produced between A and B. The bottom board threads may be single; but in the fabric of Fig. 4, the. square background strengthening net is produced by double beam or bottom board threads d<SP>1</SP>. The double spool threads a are so thrown as to produce hexagons at G, diamonds at H and larger diamonds at J, are pillared four together on warp threads b at L and are formed into clothing at K. The machine embodies a spool bar 1, a warp bar 2, and a beam bar 3, a pair of simultaneously operable jacquard controlled jacks 4 being provided for each pair of spool threads. Only alternate bobbins and carriages are left in the machine, the intervening ones being removed. A system of drafting is described wherein each of four colours denotes a different way of punching the pattern jacquard cards, to provide the necessary four modes of action of the jacks.
