Abstract

836,067. Carburetters. AMAL Ltd. July 18, 1958 [July 22, 1957], No. 23092/57. Class 7(3) The invention relates to carburetters of the type having a piston type throttle valve 4 controlling the air admission and a tapered needle valve 7 which is movable with the piston type throttle valve and which co-operates with a needle jet nozzle to control the amount of fuel entering the mixing chamber. According to the invention a carburetter of the above type has a fuel control chamber, a control diaphragm 18 separating the chamber into two parts, one of which parts communicates with the atmosphere and the other of which parts 30 is connected to a fuel inlet passage and also to a fuel outlet passage 12 communicating with the needle jet chamber, and a valve 39 in the fuel inlet passage, opening and closing of the valve being under control of the control diaphragm, and the valve being adjustably biased so as positively to close the fuel inlet passage when the pressure on each side of the diaphragm is the same and to determine the instant at which it opens due to a difference of pressure in the two parts. As shown a diaphragm operated pump is employed a chamber 43 formed between the body member 13 and the pumping diaphragm 17 is connected by passages 44, 45 and 46 to the crankcase of the engine. In a modification fuel may be supplied to the fuel control chamber by means of a gravity feed supply. The carburetter is particularly for motor cycles or small power equipments such as saws.
