Abstract

835,368. Percussive tools. INGERSOLLRAND CO. May 9, 1958, No. 14961/58. Class 124. A percussive drill, in which the impact is transmitted through a drill steel from a starter to a working implement, has the working implement movable relative to the drill steel. As shown, the working implement comprises a bit 26 threaded on to a stub shaft 28 which is movable relative to a retainer 25 and is prevented from rotating by a bush 32 screwed into the retainer and provided with flutes which engage splines on the shaft 28. The retainer is screwed on to the steel 18 and splines 38 on the rear of the shaft 28 prevent the working implement from falling out of the retainer. The working implement acts as a trap for the percussive wave, the length of which is approximately equal to twice the length of the striker used, the length of the working implement being equal to the length of the striker.
