Abstract
835,206. Electric tests. PERMUTIT CO. Ltd. June 21, 1956 [July 4, 1955], No. 19273/55. Addition to 714,642. Drawings to Specification. Class 37. In a cyclic water-softening process regeneration of a cation exchange material containing sodium ions is initiated in a predetermined change in conductivity of cation exchange material in contact with water that has passed through substantially the whole bed. The preferred cation exchange material is a sulphonated copolymer of styrene and divinyl benzene. A sulphonated phenol formaldehyde resin may also be used. The fall in conductivity may give a signal or may initiate regeneration. Conductivity may be measured by electrodes near the end of the bed but may be immersed in a separate bed to which a sample of the water flows from the main bed.
