Abstract

An adhesive agent for metals consists of a mixture containing triphenylmethane-4,41,411-triisocyanate and polyester resin, in which the amount of triphenylmethane triisocyanate in the mixture is from 10 to 90%, by weight, of the amount of polyester resin in the mixture. The expression "polyester resin" means a resin made by reacting a polybasic unsaturated carboxylic acid such as maleic, fumaric or itaconic, or anhydrides thereof with an unsaturated or saturated bivalent alcohol, such as polyglycols and mixing the resulting unsaturated alkyd resin with an unsaturated polymerizable compound such as styrene, cyclopentadiene, cyclohexene or methyl methacrylate. Suitable polyesters are obtained by reacting maleic acid and diethylene glycol and mixing the reaction product with styrene. Such a polyester is suitably applied to the metal surface in solution in methylene chloride, together with benzoyl peroxide paste consisting of benzoyl peroxide in a softener, for example dibutyl phthalate.
