Abstract

A thin, metallized web or sheet of thermoplastic dielectric material is made by cooling a rolled-up web of the material and then unwinding and feeding the web while it is still cool through hot metal vapour in vacuo. Thus a web of polythene terephthalate polyester for use in manufacturing wound condensers may be cooled to -25 DEG F. to -100 DEG F. and then coated first with a minute quantity of silver and finally with zinc.
