Classes 120(3) and 142(4) [Also in Group VIII] A monofilament, multifilament or staple fibre yarn has, in one or more sections of its length, a twist or torque in one direction and, in another or other sections of its length, similar or different twist or torque in the other direction. The yarn may be of thermoplastic material, e.g. nylon, or impregnated or coated with thermoplastic or thermosetting materials to enable thermal setting of the yarn or the twist therein. The twists or torques in each direction may be uniform and/or occur in alternate sections; sections in which there is an absence of twist or torque may be intermediate, and/or may alternate with, the former sections. The yarn may be produced by continuous passage through a "double"-twisting or a false-twisting (hollow) spindle. which is rotated alternately in one direction and then the other, the false-twisting, at least, being accompanied by yarn setting (as by heating), and winding: tension devices may be provided to minimize backtwisting or untwisting in the interval when the spindle is reversed. The yarn may be plied with other yarns. The yarn products, including forms thereof having different twists or torques in the sections, may comprise the warp and weft (or weft only) of a woven e.g. "crepe", fabric or be knitted into fabrics or articles e.g. seamless stockings or parts thereof, with or without evident pattern (resulting from differing twist/torque effects in the yarn) using a single yarn carrier (see Group VIII).
