Abstract

834,099. Supply systems for discharge lamps. WIDAKOWICH, M. Oct. 22, 1957 [Oct. 22, 1956], No. 32933/57. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] A transistor inverter circuit for supplying fluorescent tubes whereby the output current remains substantially constant and independent of fluctuations in the D.C. supply voltage comprises a stray field transformer having a primary winding 4 energized from a battery 2, through a transistor 3 controlled by a feedback winding 5 connected between the base and emitter giving an output frequency proportional to the D.C. input voltage. The secondary winding 6 is coupled to a tube 7. A push-pull arrangement giving a symmetrical output is described which may have an additional transformer primary winding connected in the output transformer common primary connection developing additional potential on the rapid change of the currents at positive and negative peaks, which is added either to the primary or secondary output voltages of the output transformer. The additional transformer primary winding may alternatively be connected in series with a capacitor across the output transformer primary winding. The sawtooth voltage output may be changed to a square-wave type by the addition of a second stage feeding the output transformer, the second stage being switched by a circuit similar to that described.
