Abstract

833,955. Iris diaphragms. SCHNEIDER, M. C. April 8, 1958 [Aug. 10, 1957], No. 11005/58. Class 97(1) An objective diaphragm consists of a number of pivotally mounted arcuate segments deflectable by a rotatable slotted control ring and is characterized in that for the purpose of fully closing the diaphragm opening at least one of the segments is arranged to be deflectable beyond the diaphragm centre. In the Figures segments a are fulcrumed at b and provided with recesses to provide spaces for guide pins c, which engage cam slots d, cut in a ring e whereby rotation of the latter in the arrowed direction deflects the segments from a fully opened position into that which produces the smallest diaphragm opening. To close fully the diaphragm opening, one or both of the outer segments (e.g., underneath segment a<SP>2</SP>) are arranged to be deflected beyond the dipahrgm centre by providing the relevant cam slot d with a more pronounced inward curvature at d<SP>1</SP>.
