Abstract

833,856. Television. GRUNDIG, M. May 1, 1958, No. 13901/58. Class 40 (3). A television apparatus arranged for examining the interior of a hollow member 1, such as the tube, comprises a camera 4 aligned with the longitudinal axis of a tube and co-operating with a mirror 5 so that its direction of view is inclined to the axis, the mirror being rotated about the axis (four positions being indicated at 5, 5<1>, 5<11>, 5<111>) so as progressively to change the direction of view and permit the whole of the walls or the member to be examined. The camera is also arranged by means not shown, to be moved along the axis of the tube. If the signals from the camera are displayed in a conventional manner, difficulty is experienced in interpreting the image, and according to the invention a number of arrangements are proposed to remove the difficulty. In a first arrangement the image is rotated in synchronism with the mirror 5 but in the opposite direction. This may be done by rotating the whole receiver, Fig. 3, not shown, or by rotating the raster, e.g. by rotating the deflecting coils. It is stated that spiral or rotating radial scanning may be employed in the apparatus to permit the rotation to be effected wholly electrically. In a second arrangement camera 4 or its raster is rotated with mirror 5. In a third arrangement, Figs. 4a and 4b (not shown), no modification is made to the display but a bearing scale or rectangular graticule is provided in association with the display and rotated in synchronism with the mirror so as to furnish the display with a datum indicating the angular position of the mirror.
