Abstract
Articles are moulded from a composition comprising a mixture of a synthetic resin or a cellulose derivative, which can be reduced to powder form and has a natural positive temperature coefficient of expansion, and lithium alumina silicate in sufficient quantity to reduce the positive temperature coefficient of expansion of said resin or cellulose derivative. The composition may also include electrical conducting materials such as carbon, boron carbide, ferrites, powdered iron, lead, tin, silver, zinc, copper or alloys thereof. The synthetic resin may be polytetrafluoroethylene, polytrifluorochloroethylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, methacrylate polymers, phenol-, aniline-, ureaor melamine-formaldehyde polymers, furans, epoxy resins or nylon, and the cellulose derivative may be ethyl cellulose, cellulose acetate or cellulose acetate butyrates. The lithium alumina silicate may be petalite, spodumene or eucryptite. The mixture may be made by tumbling, barrel rolling, dry or wet mixing or micropulverizing techniques. The article after moulding is heat-treated to form an integral body, e.g. in the case of polytetrafluoroethylene at a temperature above 700 DEG C. The moulded article may be a resistor, potentiometer, or resistance card.
