Classes 97(1) and 98(2) A vignette printer comprises lens means to project rays from a light source on to the margin of a raw positive film, one or more vignetting masks, and means selectively to interpose a mask in the path of the rays so as to partially block them and thus cast or form a vignetting band on the film. As shown, light from a source 28 is directed through a filter 30 on to a mirror 29 and thence through a condensing lens 31 and an objective lens 32 to impinge upon the margin of a kinematograph positive film 17 continuously passing through the device. One of several vignetting masks 33 each of different shape may be interposed to intercept partially the light beam and thereby a vignetting band on the film adjacent the perforations thereon. An identical system is provided on the opposite side of a screen 27 to provide a vignetting band on the other film margin if necessary. In a further embodiment the vignetting printer is combined with a device for continuously printing on to the vignetted print from a negative film which carries metal clips on its periphery which may be "read" by means of a tape reader device to bring selectively into use one of the vignetting masks 33 by means of solenoid system actuated by the tape reader. Thus three films comprising a panoramic system may be projected on to a screen with the overlapping regions of the three projected partial pictures compensated by the vignetting.
